Flashback Weekend would like to thank everyone who attended our Second Annual Horror and Sci-Fi Convention. The convention was held June 13-15, 2003 in Rosemont, IL and the Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge, Il. We were proud to present Robert Englund - Freddy Krueger from the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series and the smash hit “FREDDY VS. JASON”, Kevin McCarthy from “INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS”, Brad Dourif the voice of CHUCKY from the CHILD’S PLAY series and “Wormtounge” from THE LORD OF THE RINGS; “THE TWO TOWERS” and the upcoming “RETURN OF THE KING”.

Also featured were PJ Soles from HALLOWEEN, CARRIE, and STRIPES. Linda Harrison from the 1968 classic PLANET OF THE APES, Lisa Wilcox from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET parts 4 and 5, Ken Foree from DAWN OF THE DEAD.

A TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 reunion featured Bill Moseley “Choptop” and Bill Johnson “Leatherface”. Also appearing was the “Creeper” himself, Jonathan Breck from “JEEPERS CREEPERS” and “JEEPERS CREEPERS 2”. We also welcomed back THE EVIL DEAD special effects artist Tom Sullivan brought his museum of props from the EVIL DEAD series, and Robert Z’Dar from MANIC COP.

From TEMPE ENTERTAINMENT, the guests included J.R. Bookwalter, Lilith Stabs, and director JASON PAUL COLLUM. From the upcoming “BETTIE PAGE UNCENSORED”, director Michael Flores and the star, Bettie Page herself, Sarah Masters.

Many classic films were screened at the beautiful, historic Pickwick Theatre including special advance showings of the new Tempe film “DEADLY STINGERS” and a work in progress print of “BETTIE PAGE UNCENSORED”.

Our classic film series at the Pickwick featured 35mm screenings of “HALLOWEEN” introduced by PJ Soles, “THE TWO TOWERS” and a Q & A by Brad Dourif, Robert Englund presented behind the scenes footage from and introduced “WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE”. Anchor Bay presented a screening of the restored 35mm print of “THE HILLS HAVE EYES” which is used for the upcoming special edition DVD release.

Another highlight of the weekend live on stage at the Pickwick Theatre was “EVIL DEAD- THE MUSICAL” presented by the New Millennium Theatre Company.

The Master of Ceremonies was Daily Herald film critic and President of the Chicago Film Critics Association Dann Gire. Special guest Film critics included WGN 720AM radio’s Nick Digilio, Steve Prokopy, “CAPONE” from AIN’T IT COOL, and Peter Sobczynski.

Convention activities included a huge dealer’s room, guest presentations and Q & A’s, and Tom Sullivan’s EVIL DEAD museum. Our Sunday morning panel discussion moderated by Daily Herald film critic Dann Gire featured a fascinating discussion on the state of the modern Horror Film. The panel included Robert Englund, J.R. Bookwalter, Peter and Michael Flores. Watch for excerpts of their discussion on this site in the near future.

Once again, we would like to thank our guests, dealers, and everyone who attended, and we can’t wait until next year’s convention. We have major events planned for 2004. Check back often for updates.
