There was nothing quite like the drive-in experience in the 60s and 70s!

Our nostalgic Drive-In Film Festival recreates that experience and features a colossal 20’ x 40’ outdoor full-size Drive-In screen with 35mm projection and stereo sound. Guests will be treated to live appearances by renowned celebrity guests, screenings of full-length features, memorable vintage drive-in intermission trailers, retro intermission music, and classic horror drive-in coming attractions.

Of course, to make the experience complete, the hotel will be operating a concession stand that will be selling drive-in style snacks and sodas including popcorn, hot dogs, pizza, and hamburgers. Adult beverages (for those over 21) will also be available for purchase.

The Drive-In will be set-up in the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare’s West parking lot and will actually be a “walk-in”. Attendees will be able to enjoy the evening’s motion picture entertainment from the comfort of their own lawn chairs, blankets, or folding chairs.

Join us for a tribute to the Drive-In Theatre at the Fifth Annual Flashback Weekend Horror Convention and Drive-In. The Drive-In events will be held Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29, 2006.

John Carpenter's They LiveJOHN CARPENTER’S THEY LIVE (1988)

They influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. THEY LIVE. A rugged loner (played by wrestling legend Roddy Piper) stumbles upon a terrifying discovery: ghoulish creatures are masquerading as humans while they lull the public into submission through subliminal advertising messages. Only specially made sunglasses make the deadly truth visible.

The third film of John Carpenter’s Apocalypse trilogy (“THE THING” and “PRINCE OF DARKNESS” being the first two), “JOHN CARPENTER’S THEY LIVE”(1988) is a modern masterpiece.  From the first frames of the film, John Carpenter paints on ominous and foreboding atmosphere in which we sense that something is VERY wrong. Through masterful cinematic story-telling, the mystery builds up to the classic moment when John Nada (Roddy Piper) puts on the Black sun-glasses and sees the Yuppie at the News Stand for what he really is.

No modern film Director knows how to use wide-screen Panavison as well as John Carpenter, and this is a rare opportunity to see John Carpenter’s classic “THEY LIVE” as it was meant to be seen. We are proud to present an outdoor 35mm wide-screen presentation of “THEY LIVE” at the Flashback Weekend Drive-In. The star of the film, Roddy Piper will introduce the screening.

First Anniversary Celebration of
Rob Zombie’s “THE DEVIL’S REJECTS” (2005)
(Courtesy of Lions Gate films)

Rob Zombies “THE DEVIL’S REJECT’S” is a rarity for modern Cinema. It is a work of art - a true masterpiece in which multiple viewings reveal layered meanings and subtext. It is a film set in the 1970’s which recalls the brilliance of 70’s filmmaking. This film is about as far away as you can get from a summer “popcorn” movie as possible. Yet this film was released during the summer of 2005, at the height of mindless summer fare.

Just as we celebrated “HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES” at our Flashback Weekend Horror Convention and Drive-In in 2005; in July 2006 we will feature a massive event to celebrate the July 22, 2005 release of “THE DEVIL’S REJECT’S”. We have booked many of the main celebrity talents from the film (and are working on additional guests). The 35mm print will be projected on a massive 20’ x 40’ outdoor screen! This will be a celebration of 70’s cinema and a party not to be forgotten! Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see “THE DEVIL’S REJECT’S” on an outdoor Drive-In screen!

Sadly, the first guest that we invited to this event will not be attending. Matt McGrory (Tiny Firefly) passed away on August 9, 2005, just nine days after his 2005 Flashback Weekend appearance.

The 2006 convention is dedicated to Matt. A special tribute for Matt will be held, and Matt’s Q & A’s during Flashback July 2005 will be screened at the convention for attendees who missed them in 2005.

HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS (1988)

TEN YEARS AGO, HE CHANGED THE FACE OF HALLOWEEN. TONIGHT, HE’S BACK.

A decade ago, he butchered 16 people trying to get to his sister. He was shot and incinerated, but still the entity that Dr. Sam Loomis (the legendary Donald Pleasence) calls “Evil on two legs” would not die. Tonight, Michael Myers has come home again…to kill! This time, Michael returns to Haddonfield for Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris of HALLOWEEN 5 and THE LAST BOY SCOUT) – the orphaned daughter of Laurie Strode – and her step-sister Rachel (Ellie Cornell of HALLOWEEN 5 and HOUSE OF THE DEAD). Can Loomis stop Michael before the unholy slaughter reaches his innocent young niece? Michael Pataki, Sasha Jenson and Kathleen Kinmont co-star in this smash sequel that marked the long-awaited return to the original storyline and remains infamous for its startling twist ending and graphic violence.

To celebrate the upcoming release of Anchor Bay Entertainment’s Divimax Special Edition of  “HALLOWEEN 4”,  we are happy to present a special Drive-In screening of “HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS”. The screening will be introduced by Danielle Harris, the star of “HALLOWEEN 4”.

FROM BEYOND (1986)

Executive Producer Charles Band, Director Stuart Gordon, and stars Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton re-united after the success of “RE-ANIMATOR” with this modernized adaptation of the classic H.P. Lovecraft story.

Dr. Pretorius and his colleagues are working on a sensational experiment: by means of stimulation of the pineal gland, they want to open the human mind to higher dimensions. When the experiment succeeds, however, they are immediately attacked by terrible life forms, which apparently are floating around us all the time. When Dr. Pretorius is killed by one of them, Dr. Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs) is under suspect and thrown into the psycho ward due to his stories. Only the ambitious psychologist Dr. McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) believes him and wants to continue the experiment.

We are proud to present a 20th anniversary showing of “FROM BEYOND” introduced by Charles Band and co- star Ken Foree.
