Film and TV Star Bruce Campbell (“Ash” from the original “EVIL DEAD” trilogy, TV’s “ASH VS. EVIL DEAD”) will be bringing safe fun to his fans at Flashback Weekend’s Midway Drive-In Theater in Dixon, IL as part of his Drive-In Social Distancing Tour.

Bruce will take the Midway Drive-In stage each night and perform extended Q & A’s, in addition to introducing all three feature films of his original “EVIL DEAD” trilogy during this epic two night event.

Bruce Campbell’s legendary Q & A events will become an all immersive media experience as Bruce’s live performance will be projected simultaneously onto the Midway’s huge 90-foot wide screen. Fans will sit in the comfort and safety of their own cars and see Bruce on the Midway screen larger than life with the stereo sound broadcast to their FM car stereos. The Midway Drive-In’s eight acres of open air space will allow the fans to spread out in their vehicles for maximum social distancing.  To further increase safety and peace of mind, the car capacity of the Midway has been reduced by half to 250 cars, and each vehicle will occupy two car spaces to give fans twice the normal amount of space.

Friday, July 10, Bruce will present his Q & A and introduce a double feature of his cult classics, Sam Raimi’s “EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN” (1987) and “ARMY OF DARKNESS” (1993).  Saturday night, July 11, in addition to his Q & A, Bruce will introduce a 4K restoration of the movie that started it all, Sam Raimi’s original Horror Classic “THE EVIL DEAD”. Grindhouse Releasing’s Academy Award winner Bob Murawski oversaw the new 4K restoration of “THE EVIL DEAD” which includes a new stereo sound mix and a re-imagined score by original EVIL DEAD composer Joseph LoDuca. Saturday evening’s entertainment will further include a Dusk to Dawn Horror Show featuring other cult horror classics from Grindhouse Releasing.  To provide the full nostalgic Drive-In experience, each night will include vintage drive-in concession ads and classic horror coming attractions.

VIP passes will include photo-ops with Bruce! Bruce will pose for professional outdoor photo-ops by Celeb Photo-ops with fans in socially distanced photos (six feet apart). With the Drive-In screen in the background, a deadite will barge into the photo between Bruce and the fan (you!) to enforce social distancing – and provide a great photo-op as you and Bruce battle a deadite! VIP packages and the Groovy package will also include a pre-signed commemorative poster by Bruce. And as at any concert, there will be a souvenir table with exclusive tour merchandise.

Face coverings, social distancing, and concern for your fellow horror fans’ health are the sacred words for this event which all of Bruce’s fans must not forget. Practice these three things and you’ll prevent the Army of the Dead from awakening!

Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror Con owns and operates the Midway Drive-In located in Dixon, IL.  Flashback Weekend believes that a horror convention should benefit the legacy of horror and the film arts. For this reason, all net proceeds from Flashback Weekend go to the preservation and operation of the Midway Drive-In to preserve the horror theatrical experience.

Following is the current event schedule for Friday July 10 and Saturday July 11. Please note that VIPs may enter beginning at 3:00PM each day. General Admits may start entering at 5:00PM each day.

Friday July 10, 2020

New food policy – Purchase of a Bruce Campbell Live at the Drive-In ticket will allow you to bring your own food and drinks. Outside food and drinks are required. We are waiving the outside Food Permit fee for this event. Everyone pack a cooler and bring you own food and drinks as the concession stand will be closed.  A walk up snack window serving a limited selection of snacks including freshly made cheeseburgers, corn dogs, french fries, pizza, and freshly popped popcorn will be available.

WHAT YOU MUST BRING WITH YOU TO REDEEM YOUR GENERAL ADMIT TICKETS AT OUR BOX-OFFICE
Please have your printed ticket or smart device that was used to purchase tickets so that the QR code can be scanned at the Box Office at time of entry. We can scan a cell phone or a paper print out of the email.

  • After your ticket purchase, you will be e-mailed a confirmation with a bar code.
  • You must bring the e-mail containing the bar code with you to the Midway (on an electronic device or printed).
  • We will scan the bar code at our box-office.
  • Do not share your barcode with anyone, as the barcode can only be scanned once
  • You may print the e-mail bar code on paper, or bring your cell phone and we can scan the bar code with a contactless scan.
  • Your tickets will not be mailed.
  • Photo-op ticket holders must be on time at the scheduled time for the photo-op. The Bruce Campbell Photo-op cannot be re-scheduled.  No refunds for photo-ops you miss.

Saturday ala carte Bruce Campbell Photo-op | $25

One (1) Professional photo-op with Bruce Campbell by Celeb Photo-ops. Bruce will pose for outdoor photo-ops with fans in socially distanced photos six feet apart as a deadite will barge into the photo between Bruce and the fans to allow for a safe and great photo-ops!) Your photo will be a top quality 8 x 10 glossy photos printed on dye sublimation printers and given to you on-site.

If you are looking for a local hotel, we have established a discount room block for Midway Drive-In attendees at the Quality Inn and Suites in Dixon, IL. The hotel is located directly off of 88 West, and is just a 15 minute drive from the Midway. The discount rate for regular room is only $75.00 per night plus tax. Just call the hotel at (815) 284-0500 and mention MIDWAY DRIVE-IN to receive the discount rate. If you would like to book a suite, you will need to pay an upgrade fee for the suite (upgrade fee is the difference between the suite rate and our discount rate).

VEHICLE POLICY - Please note that only one (1) vehicle is permitted per ticket order. You are allowed to bring in other fans with you in your vehicle. Each person in the vehicle must have either pre-purchased any of the three types of event passes or they can pay for the Deadite pass at check-in. The exact location of your parking space is not determined. First come, first parked.

CELEB PHOTO-OP INFORMATION - Be on time for the photo-op. We are unable to “RE-DO” photo-ops for those that are late or miss their photo-ops. Everyone needs to be on time and in line at the designated times (which are TBA). Maintain social distance of six feet at all times while in the photo-op line. The exact photo-op times will be posted as we get closer to the event. Everyone needs to wear a face covering in the photo op line while waiting for the photo-op, and after your complete the photo-op. You may remove your face mask for the photo-op, just wear the mask before and after the photo-op. Social distance between you and Bruce of at least six feet must be maintained at all times. No Handshakes. No cell phones, cameras, or video. Professional Celeb Photo-Ops only with Bruce. Up to two adult and two children under the age of 17 may be in each Celeb Photo-Op. To allow everyone to have time for their photo-ops, please move quickly and follow the instructions of the Celeb Photo-Op staff. To avoid confusion, a photo op is not a meet and greet. The process is very quick without time to talk to or converse with Bruce. It is a photo opportunity in the literal sense of the word.

FOOD POLICY - Special policy for Bruce Campbell attendees! Everyone is allowed to bring in their own food and drinks The traditional self serviceMidway concession stand will be closed, and everyone can bring their own food and beverages into the Midway. Everyone please pack a cooler of drinks and you may bring food and drinks with you so that you will not be hungry or thirsty during this event. For your safety and health, please do not share food between cars. You may not cook or grill food on the premises.
Please understand that the temporary closure of the traditional concession stand is a major financial blow to the Midway! Without the concession sales, it will be very difficult for us to keep the lights on at the Midway. As always, the most important part of this is you, our community. Especially now, in these times, we are keeping the best interests of our community in mind – your safety and peace of mind are most important.

WALK UP SNACK BAR OPEN - We will provide a walk up snack window where snack and food items will be available for purchase. To support the Midway and to help us to remain open, we ask that everyone please make a purchase at the snack bar during your visit, even a box of popcorn, will be a huge help to us. Thank you for your help!

FACE COVERINGS POLICIES

  • Everyone must bring a face covering (ex: mask, scarf, bandana, etc.) with you to the Midway.
  • Everyone must wear a face covering when they leave their parking space.
  • The driver and front passenger in each vehicle must wear a face covering when entering the Midway to check-in at the box-office, or when speaking to parking attendants. The face coverings may be removed once the vehicle is parked and you are in your parking spot.
  • Face coverings must be worn when you leave your parking spot, in the photo-op line, in the restroom line, in the snack bar line, in the restrooms, etc.

SOUND FOR THE Q & A AND MOVIES TRANSMITTED TO YOUR FM RADIO - We suggest that everyone bring a portable radio or boom box with them to tune into 91.3 FM. You can still tune your in-car radio to 91.3 FM to listen to the movie (in the accessory position), but having a portable FM radio is a great back-up in case your car does not have an accessory position, or if there are issues (with newer cars, there are issues sometimes).

Please make sure you are able to turn all of the lights on your vehicle off during the movie (both head lights, brake lights, and interior lights). Please test your vehicle in advance. If any of your lights stay on, please bring blankets, or cardboard to cover the lights on your vehicle.
